YE,CHANG-GENG, a researcher, initially studied in the Department of Biological Sciences at National Taiwan University (NTU). However, he later discovered his true passion lay in uncovering little-known histories, challenging existing perceptions, and sharing stories of prehistoric times. Consequently, he pursued a double major in the Department of Anthropology at NTU. The goal of archaeology is to reconstruct the cultural history associated with different eras and artifacts, to revive the lifestyles and interpersonal interactions of the past, and to explain societal transformations. Ultimately, archaeology aims to present these historical insights to the public. Archaeological work begins with the technical examination of landscapes and site environments. This can involve the use of stationary or handheld scanners to map terrains, as well as laser scanning and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for aerial surveys. Additionally, multiple photographs can be processed into 3D models using software like Photoscan. Artifacts unearthed require preservation and maintenance, including stabilization and repair. To understand the age and context of the artifacts, experimental analysis of materials and soil structures is necessary. In recent years, cloud platforms and databases have been developed for archaeological sites and artifacts, facilitating the integration and updating of information. The speaker's enthusiasm for archaeology has also inspired me to explore my own interests and not be afraid of change.
