本次生工實習專題演講我們很榮幸邀請到台灣默克生命科學事業體的陳委承總經理，講者簡單介紹了默克公司的歷史與使命，一路從一間藥局出發經歷了十三代的家庭企業。再來學長介紹了他自己的職涯發展，並且提出學士碩士的歷程奠定了他的基礎能力，在EMBA則給予了他與時俱進的養分；接下來學長也不藏私，分享了些面試經典題目，並且與我們分享了戈壁沙漠走路艱難的體驗以及單車環島的故事，非常有趣！這些經驗讓他相信自己可以不斷自我超越，最後學長勉勵我們也要相信自己的潛力，不斷學習新知識且與時俱進才能保持活力與不被淘汰，雖說前人種樹、後人乘涼，但最好的種樹時間是現在，想好自己想要的未來，只要願意行動，改變會從現在開始。

We are delighted to invite general manager Wesley Chen from Merck Taiwan to share about the history of Merck and his personal experience and suggestions on self-development. Merck is a pharmaceutical and chemical company founded in 1668 by F. J. Merck in Germany, and since then it has become a worldwide renown brand. Today, it encompasses three fields: life science, healthcare and electronics, one of their main motivations being to accelerate access to health for people everywhere. After briefly introducing the company he works for, the speaker started talking about more personal matters, referring to them as some sort of advice or example for us, the students. He mentioned how when he was a university student didn’t like what he was studying, which was related to the field of aeronautics, and so he had a poor academic performance during that time. As if that wasn’t enough, when he started working on what he liked, the life science field, he had to spend a lot of time getting himself acquainted with the knowledge needed for the task, since the majority of his colleagues were much more prepared in the required theoretical background. He spoke about some of the most commonly asked questions in job interviews where: “What was your latest achievement?”, followed by “What was your last failure?”. For himself, his latest challenge, though not a failure really, was participating in a 4-day marathon through a desert, which was led by months of training and was altogether an arduous experience, but he and his team eventually completed the challenge. His latest achievement would be getting his degree in EMBA, as well as getting awarded as one of the company’s best workers in the selling area. Finally, he advised to find what one feels passionate towards, as well as not waiting to be completely prepared for something before taking an opportunity.
